Arrive before 9.30am in summer — these car parks fill completely by mid-morning on sunny days. Once full, there is no overflow and no alternative nearby.

Approx. £10–£20 per day (peak season)

Free for everyone — NT members and non-members alike.

Norden Park & Ride (Swanage Railway)

Park & Ride

Near Corfe Castle

The smartest way to visit Corfe Castle and Swanage without the parking headache. Park for free at Norden and take the steam train to Corfe Castle village (5 minutes) or all the way to Swanage (25 minutes). The train fare includes your return journey.

This is genuinely the best way to visit Corfe Castle in summer. The village car park is tiny and often closed, and the roads get gridlocked. Norden solves all of that.

Parking: Free for rail passengers. Train: approx. £18 adult return / £9 child return.

Weymouth Park & Ride

Park & Ride

Weymouth

Weymouth operates a seasonal Park & Ride service during the summer months, allowing visitors to park on the outskirts of town and take a bus into the town centre and seafront. This avoids the congestion and high costs of seafront parking.

Use the Park & Ride and combine with the Jurassic Coaster bus for a stress-free day exploring the coast from Weymouth.

The Coastal Bus Hack

Money-Saving Tip

Weymouth, Dorchester

One of the best-kept secrets for Dorset visitors: park in a cheaper, long-stay car park in a town like Weymouth or Dorchester (£4 all day) and use the Jurassic Coaster bus for your day of coastal exploring. You eliminate multiple parking payments, avoid gridlocked coastal roads, and get to enjoy the scenery from the top deck of an open-top bus.

This works brilliantly for visiting Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, and Swanage all in one day without moving your car.

£4 all-day parking + Jurassic Coaster day ticket

Pay by App — PayByPhone & RingGo

Practical Tip

Across Dorset

Most council-managed car parks across Dorset now use mobile payment apps, primarily PayByPhone and RingGo. You can pay, extend your stay remotely, and get low-balance reminders — all without returning to your car. Both apps are free to download.

Download both apps before you travel — different car parks use different systems. PayByPhone is most common in BCP areas; RingGo is widely used across Dorset Council car parks.

Arrive Early — The Golden Rule

Key Advice

All coastal locations

Car parks at iconic spots like Durdle Door, Sandbanks, Studland, and Lulworth Cove fill up very quickly on sunny days and during school holidays. Once full, there is often no overflow and no alternative nearby — meaning a wasted journey.

Aim to arrive before 10am at any popular coastal location in summer. The reward is a parking space, a quieter beach, and a much more enjoyable day.
